Every member of our staff at the Newcastle hospitals strives to combine absolute professionalism with a human touch. Their success can be seen in the praise they get in the thousands of cards sent to us by patients each year, or in the many positive comments that can be found on this website. From paediatric play nurses to physiotherapists who care for the elderly, each one of us puts our patients at the centre of everything we do.
From time to time an individual is singled out for special praise. One such person is Sandra Bosman, the 2007 Midwife of the Year. Based at the RVI, Sandra specialises in multiple births and it was her role in the birth of quadruplets that prompted their mother to nominate her for this prestigious award.
Lorna Bird, 2006 Midwife of the Year and a judge this year said:
“This midwife is truly inspirational, her devotion and commitment to her multiple birth families is outstanding. Every day she goes the extra mile without a second thought and her charity work is just a further sign of her dedication.”
Of course, Sandra would tell you that a successful birth is reward enough for what she did that day. But then our hospitals are full of people who are as modest as they are talented. And full of instances where our staff’s dedication makes an enormous difference.
The best thing about this story is that it doesn’t just have one happy ending. It has four.
