About Us

Partnership working

Working in partnership with other organisations ensures that the best people and facilities can be brought together to carry out research work and clinical trials.

Our major research partners

We work closely with a range of partners on research projects. Our major partners include:

Newcastle University

We have developed the Newcastle Joint Research Office with Newcastle University to co-ordinate our combined skills, experiences and resources between us.

The university works with us on cutting-edge research projects involving talented doctors, researchers and undergraduates.

You can find out more about the many research and development projects with Newcastle University.

You can also find out about our joint research projects on the Newcastle Academic Health Partners website.

INSPIRE partnership

We were the very first clinical research organisation in the UK to be awarded INSPIRE site status by Pfizer, under its Investigator Networks, Site Partnerships and Infrastructure for Research Excellence (INSPIRE) program me.

Pfizer and Newcastle Hospitals share knowledge and experience of medicines research to help bring innovative new medicines to patients in the UK and around the world.

National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (NIHR)

The NIHR Clinical Research Network – is part of the National Institute for Health Research which aims to enable high-quality clinical research within the NHS by providing the necessary support.  Ultimately this helps patients to benefit from new and better treatments.

Newcastle Hospitals is one of just 15 NHS trusts appointed to host a local branch of the NIHR – the NIHR Clinical Research Network: North East and North Cumbria.

This helps us to increase the opportunities for patients to take part in clinical research, and ensure that the research studies are carried out efficiently.

You can find out more about our appointment as NIHR co-ordinator in the North.

Brains for Dementia Research

Our Newcastle Brain Tissue Resource – the brain tissue ‘bank’ for the city – is part of the Brains for Dementia Research network, which acts as a nationwide system for brain donation.

Helping research continue

As well as being involved in research projects, we also encourage research by offering professionals with grants to carry out research activity.

Professionals can find out more about research activity at the Newcastle Joint Research Office website.
