About Us

Open and Honest Care

Along with other NHS organisations, we want to make sure that you can access information about the quality of care we provide.

We want to be open, honest and accountable to the public and our patients, which will ultimately help us to make improvements in our care services.

The ‘NHS Open and Honest Care’ programme helps us to do this by providing you with a wide range of information about services.

The information we provide

Each month, we publish a report showing you information and statistics on topics including:

  • NHS Safety Thermometer: a monthly check to see how many patients suffer certain types of harm
  • healthcare associated infections, such as MRSA and C Difficile
  • pressure ulcers
  • falls causing moderate or greater harm
  • information on staff experience
  • information on patient experience, including the Friends and Family Test
  • a patient story
  • an improvement story describing what we have learnt and what improvements we are making.

Why are we doing this?

As well as publishing this information, we tell you about what we’re doing to improve the care our patients receive. This will further reduce the harm that patients sometimes experience while in our care.

We also work with other care providers to share what we have learned, and use this information to identify changes that we can make to improve care.

Safe Staffing Levels

All hospitals are also required to publish information about the number of nursing and midwifery staff working on each hospital ward, together with the percentage of shifts meeting safe staffing guidelines.

This is part of the NHS response to the Francis Report which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service.
