Car Parking

Over 400 public car park spaces are provided for use by both visitors and patients in the two main car parks located at the front of the hospital and a further 200 spaces area availalbe on levels 0 and 1 of the Multi Storey Car Park at the rear of the hospital, opposite the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. Please note that all other levels are for staff parking only.

Charges for parking

Charges for parking are as follows:

 0 - 5 hours  £1.20 per hour
 6 - 24 hours  £7.70 per period

 

50% reduction on higher charge for weekend parking only.

£1.30 per hour up to 5 hours

Disabled parking

Disabled parking is available, 'free of charge' for blue badge holders, and there are a number of designated 'disabled' spaces located at the front of the main hospital car park, outside of the barriers. 

If you are unable to secure a 'disabled' parking space you should park in the main hospital car park at the standard tariffs displayed. 

Other spaces which can be accessed by 'blue badge' holders are located outside the Cardiothoracic Centre main entrance.

Please note that disabled spaces located in the Disablement Services Centre area are for use by patients and visitors attending this unit only.

Parking at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and the Renal Services Centre

Patients and visitors to the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and the Renal Services Centre have access to the following parking facilities located at the rear of Freeman Hospital.

Multi-Storey Car Park - Levels 0 and 1 only

To access this area when entering the hospital site visitors and patients should turn left at the roundabout on the approach road to the main hospital and follow the road to the rear of the hospital.

'Pay and display' machines will be located in this area and you should ensure that you display a valid ticket in your windscreen.  Charges are as shown above.

Please note that parking on other levels is NOT allowed for patients and visitors. Non-permit holders will be subject to a penalty notice being issued by Parkforce as outlined below.  A minimum charge of £30 applies for misuse of parking facilities.

Free Permit Parking

A number of 'free of charge' parking spaces are provided in the car park opposite the Renal Services Centre main entrance.  This is only available for patients who need to attend the centre for regular treatment and will have been provided with specially designated parking permit.

Alternative Parking

Should you be unable to park in any of the areas outlined above, you should proceed to the main hospital car park located at the front of the hospital.

Parkforce – Penalty Notice Scheme

Please note that the Trust operates the above system in managing its estate and car parks. If you park inappropriately you may be issued with a penalty notice and fined.

To avoid being issued with a penalty notice please observe the signs placed around the site and the following ‘good practice’ guide when parking on site.

  • Do not park on double yellow lines or hatched areas
  • Only park in a designated space
  • Park in an appropriate space eg not one that is allocated for other vehicles
  • Do not cause an obstruction to traffic or access to a building by parking inappropriately
  • Display your ‘blue badge’ when using disabled parking on site

 

The Newcastle Hospitals has a ‘zero’ tolerance policy regarding abuse of staff.  Please do not verbally or physically abuse our staff.
