Renal Services Centre

The Renal Services Centre brings together all elements of renal services currently provided at the Freeman Hospital and the RVI, providing better facilities for both patients and staff. It will also enhance the way staff can care for patients from initial tests and diagnosis, through treatment - including haemodialysis - to outpatient appointments.

A truly pleasant environment for receiving expert care

The Haemodialysis Unit (Ward 31) will be located on the second floor of the Renal Services Centre and comprise five open plan haemodialysis suites which are spacious, light and attractive and designed to provide optimum privacy. The suites will have 10 or 5 personal dialysis stations, each equipped with comfy chairs and the latest Bruan Dialog dialysis machines. In addition, there are four single haemodialysis rooms available for patients requiring isolation or a much higher degree of privacy. All haemodialysis rooms offer pleasing views.

The nephrology inpatient ward (Ward 32) will be located on the third floor and is a light and spacious 34 bedded area of hotel quality, including 18 single rooms complemented by contemporary ensuite bathroom facilities.

There is a dedicated renal outpatient suite with direct access to specialist monitoring and examination facilities as well as clinical investigations in the Renal Clinical Investigation Unit, and home dialysis training. There is also a brand new resource area with internet access and a wealth of information so that patients and their relatives and carers can find out more information helping them to learn about and manage their own condition.

Achieving our vision for total patient care

Bringing Renal Services together will be a major step forward for our total patient care approach, where staff and patients have the opportunity to develop a long-term and supportive relationship over the course of their hospital visits.
