The Trust is delighted to have formed an alliance with MediCinema to develop a state-of-the-art purpose built cinema in the heart of the development at the RVI.
MediCinema is a registered charity that opened its first cinema in December 1999 at St Thomas’ Hospital London with its aims to enhance patient care by the provision of fully equipped cinemas in hospitals. The facility, financed entirely by charitable donations, provides much needed escape for patients who can enjoy the magic of the movies right in the heart of the hospital.
The RVI cinema, which will hold around 55 people, is specially designed to cater for patients in beds and wheelchairs and nursing staff will be on duty throughout every screening.
The Newcastle project will be the first purpose built hospital cinema to be constructed in the UK and will come complete with 35mm projection, Dolby Surround Sound and specialist Cinema lighting.
The MediCinema will open in early 2009 as part of the first phase of development at the RVI.
