Foundation Programme Year 1

Due to the size of our Trust and the subsequent range of services provided we are pleased to offer a wide range of experience for all trainees within this foundation programme. Each rotation will comprise 3 four month attachments. These will include attachments to Medicine and Surgery to satisfy GMC requirements and also a dedicated 4 week block working in the Acute Medical Admissions Unit at the RVI.

In addition to a wide variety of medical and surgical specialties a number of opportunities exist for trainees to experience working for 4 months in Critical Care units across the Trust.

Details of each post are varied and all F1 posts within the Trust have been deemed suitable for F1 training by the Postgraduate Institute. Available posts for 2008 are detailed in the table below:

Foundation Programme Year 2

The second year of the programme is designed to provide a wide portfolio of experience for each trainee in both acute and non-acute specialties.  Whilst most posts are within the acute hospital setting there is ample opportunity to experience community based practice including GP.

The F2 programme should complement the experience provided in F1. Rather than expecting you to commit to a specific F2 rotation at this stage, F2 placements will be allocated approximately half way through the F1 year based upon educational need, career preferences and trainee choice, in keeping with the principles of the Foundation Programme.

As a guide, our current F2 programme includes the following specialties:
