Medical Education and Training

When it comes to investing in our people, we enjoy an international reputation for medical training. In 2006, we received the Teaching Hospital of the Year award from the highly respected independent healthcare research company, Dr Foster. Just one of several awards we’ve received in recent years. Practitioners come to us from all over the UK, and from as far afield as Egypt and China, to learn the latest techniques and to see best practice in action. And we don’t just train the nurses, doctors and surgeons of tomorrow. We take great pride in the fact they choose to stay with us.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals are committed to providing high quality medical education for all doctors in training. As one of the largest Trusts in the UK, we are able to offer training in a wide variety of specialties. Most specialty programmes include one or more rotational posts through Newcastle and we accommodate approximately 25% of trainees within the Deanery. There are a wealth of learning opportunities available here, at departmental level, at Trust-wide level and for Specialty Training, at regional level in collaboration with other Trusts across the Northern Deanery.
