The Foundation Programme

The Foundation Programme is a two year generic training programme which forms the bridge between Medical School and Specialist / General Practice Training. At Newcastle Hospitals we will provide experience to allow Foundation Programme Trainees to develop a broad range of skills both clinical and personal which will act as a cornerstone of future speciality training.  

Why choose a Foundation Programme at NUTH?

  • We provide a structured Shadowing Programme to introduce your F1 role incorporating hands on Simulation Training.
  • We provide a comprehensive Induction to working within the NHS using a variety of methods of delivery of content.
  • We provide a weekly Clinical Teaching Programme for F1 trainees.
  • We provide a comprehensive Professional Development Programme which will develop key generic skills.
  • We have varied training programmes, all of which have full educational approval from the Northern Deanery Foundation School, for which trainees can state a preference.
  • We have a dedicated Foundation Programme Educational Team to support you through your training.
  • You will have a trained Educational and Clinical Supervisor and an assigned Foundation Programme Tutor throughout your training.
  • We provide access to the Newcastle Patient at Risk Course (NParc) & Resus Council Accredited ALS Courses.
  • We provide access to a NDFS Study Leave budget in F2.
  • We provide access to a wide range of Careers advice.
