At NUTH education and training is integral to the Foundation Programme. In addition to the educational opportunities you will encounter on the wards all trainees will have regular formal teaching. In F1 trainees attend a weekly clinical teaching programme. Trainees have input into the content of the programme and evaluation takes place following every session.
The Professional Development Programme is a 2 year teaching programme with aims to help trainees learn the basic generic skills of a doctor. There are a number of different methods of deliver of the Professionalism curriculum, teaching is based upon your clinical experience and delivered by a multi-professional team of speakers
Message from Mr Jon Hanson – Foundation Programme Tutor.
As part of our shadowing programme we have designed and implemented a simulation based course for all new Foundation year 1 doctors. The course consists of small group learner centered teaching where each participant is exposed to a different simulated acutely ill patient. In addition, trainees rotate through a number of stations where they perform common but important tasks with one to one coaching.
This years Foundation Doctors rated the half day simulation course extremely highly. Aspects that rated particularly highly were the use of practical activities and simulation. All Doctors felt that their skills had improved as a result of the course and would recommend the course to other newly starting doctors
