As part of our commitment to developing the future health care workforce, we offer opportunities for individuals to find out more about potential careers in the NHS through our annual work experience programmes.
Due to the high demand for work experience, we have to limit the number of placements. We have recently revised our policy, and the available work experience programmes are below:
Please note: Applications to the Trust for work experience are not accepted directly from school children, students or their parents.
Year 10 students (under 16 years) – Newcastle students only
Dates for work experience opportunities with the Trust are sent to schools, and applications should be made through schools' Careers Officers.
Year 11/12 students (over 16 years old) - Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumbria (subject to availability of placements)
We offer a four day hospital-based observational clinical placement for students seeking a specific career, and in the process of applying to professional training.
Four day placement
Day one includes an induction into the Trust, followed by a three day shadowing placement. Placements available include:
- Nursing - one placement
- Medicine - three placements
You should apply for placements through your school's Careers Officers.
Mature students - education visits
We try to offer work experience for 16-18 year olds seeking to pursue a professional career in the NHS (subject to availability). Students will need to demonstrate a genuine intention to work in a hospital or community-based health care settings. We will give priority to those actively applying for professional training.
For details on this type of placement only, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
