The Great North Children's Hospitals has become Nova International’s nominated charity for the Bupa Great North Run, receiving a number of guaranteed entries for the Senior, Junior and Mini events, together with a donation from the proceeds at the annual Bupa Great North Run Hall of Fame Dinner.
Due for completion in Spring 2010 in the grounds of the existing Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, the new £100m children’s hospital will offer the very highest level of care for youngsters of all ages with a huge variety of conditions.
Brendan Foster, Chairman and Chief Executive of Nova International, who announced the agreement, said: “It is fitting that this wonderful new facility, named through a public vote, should be supported by us as our official charity. Both organisations have evolved in the region, both support the local community and whilst the Great North Run is already an iconic landmark for the region, the Great North Children’s Hospital is sure to follow.”
Sir Leonard Fenwick, Chief Executive for the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are delighted that the public voted for the hospital to have the famous ‘Great North’ name in our title and excited about the forthcoming association. The hospital is a facility the region, just like the Great North Run, can be justly proud of and will provide excellent standards of care for our young patients.”
On completion, the Great North Children’s Hospital will be the first time the region has seen the majority of its children’s services, staff and treatments under one roof – providing everything a sick child may need in one central hub.
The Foundation Trust is delighted to be working with Nova International and as a consequence to be associated with the Great North Run.
