Future of Newcastle's Children's Heart Unit secured

The long term future of the Freeman Hospital's Children’s Cardiothoracic Surgical Services (including transplantation) has been secured following detailed assessment on a national basis by the Department of Health's "Safe and Sustainable Review".

The underlying strengths of these services has been demonstrated by high quality outcomes and innovation.

The healthcare professionals are to be commended.  The support of the many parents, carers, and children is greatly appreciated.
