Brother and Sister Duo complete their first Great North Run to raise money for Great North Children's Hospital

Lindsay Marambe and her brother Anth raised over £1700.00 for Great North Children's Hospital by completing their first Great North Run in September.

The family wanted to find a way to thank the staff on ward nine at Great North Children’s Hospital for the care Lindsay’s son Rory received when he was born.

Rory was born in October 2017 at Darlington Hospital, however the day after delivery it was discovered something was wrong with his bowels and he was immediately transferred to The Great North Children’s Hospital.

The day after arriving, Rory received an emergency operation to remove the obstruction from his bowels and then spent 5 weeks in recovery on ward nine.

“The care we received at Great North Children’s Hospital was outstanding and I will never be able to show my gratitude fully but being able to raise money for the ward has been amazing. Bringing Rory back to visit ward 9 and present the cheque will mean so much to us” explained Lindsay.

Rory came back to ward nine along with Lindsay and Anth to meet with staff from the ward, including Senior Sister Gail Conn who cared for Rory when he at hospital.

“I remember Rory from when he was here as a baby, it’s so lovely to see him again and looking so well! said Senior Sister Gail Conn.

“We are so grateful for the donation, it is an amazing amount of money and will really make a difference to our patients!”
