Charlie Bear for Cancer Care

The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) has a charity dedicated to supporting everything we do here called the Charlie Bear for Cancer Care charitable fund.  The appeal was first launched in 1978 by Daisy Clark, from Morpeth, to help raise £1 million to purchase the first CT scanner in the Northern Region.  Daisy and her helpers made thousands of teddy bears, called Charlie after her husband, to raise the cash, and with the invaluable backing of our local media and the amazing generosity of the people of the North East this target was reached in 1982.

Charlie Bear celebrates his 30th birthday in 2008 and continues to ensure Daisy’s incredible contribution to support cancer care across the region will never be forgotten, helping us that bit further by providing additional patient comforts, new sophisticated equipment, specialist staff training and funding for local cancer research projects.

Arthritis in Children Fund

The Arthritis in Children Fund has grown through generous donations from the people of the North East. Your continued support will be gratefully received and help us to continue to provide and develop activities for children with rheumatic disease.

The Paediatric Rheumatology service in Newcastle upon Tyne is one of the largest and longest established in the UK, and provides a service for children throughout the North East. The service has received national awards in recognition for it’s excellent clinical service, research and training delivered and is one of only two centres that can offer bone marrow transport for children with severe arthritis.

The fund aims to help children enjoy activities that they may otherwise not be able to take part in because of their rheumatic condition. Support has included the making of educational, horse riding activities and Independence breaks at the Calvert Trust in Kielder.

The Grafters Club

We are a club for children and their families in the North East and Cumbria who have experienced a burn injury, whether the accident was recent or some time ago. The club welcomes anyone who has had a burn injury.
