Personal Touch Awards

We are extremely proud to know that Newcastle Hospitals is widely regarded as a world-class provider of healthcare. Yet for all the modern facilities and advanced technology, our services would not be such a great success without the endless dedication, commitment and remarkable achievements of the people who deliver the service day to day.

Personal Touch Awards logo

That is why we have the ‘Personal Touch Awards’ - a staff/volunteer recognition scheme to allow us to express our gratitude and celebrate outstanding efforts of our staff and volunteers every single day, who ensure each patient we see receives healthcare at its very best – with a personal touch

The scheme helps us to identify and celebrate those Trust staff and volunters who ‘make us proud’ and best represent the Trust values. The scheme will recognise and reward individual staff, volunteers and teams. All permanent Trust employees will be eligible to be nominated.

Award winners and nominees

You can read all about this years quarterly award winners/nominees on the Personal Touch Award winners page.

How can I be involved?

We ask you – members of staff or users of our services – to nominate individuals or teams including volunteers, who you feel deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication. Someone who may have just gone that extra mile to make sure you or someone you know, received exceptional care or support.

Or, as a member of staff, you may admire a fellow colleague, team or volunteer, who have consistently demonstrated consideration and commitment by placing patients at the heart of everything they do.

And don’t forget all the staff and volunteers who work behind the scenes in operational, estates or corporate support functions to ensure that services run smoothly for both patients and their colleagues.

How do I nominate?

You can nominate a member of staff, volunteer or team for the award by completing the online nomination form below, outlining the reasons why you feel they are such a great example of providing clinical care or support ‘at its very best – with a personal touch’.

Alternatively, you can complete a PDF nomination form below and post it into the comments/suggestions boxes on our wards/clinics and reception areas.

Nominations can be made by colleagues, patients or visitors. The awards are made quarterly and nominations must be received by:

  • Tuesday 31st March 2020
  • Tuesday 30th June 2020
  • Wednesday 30th September 2020
  • Thursday 31st December 2020

How are the nominations judged?

All nominations received will be reviewed by a panel of judges, made up of clinical and non-clinical staff, patient and governor representatives. Two individual winners, one volunteer and one winning team will be announced at the end of each quarter. The winners will be contacted directly by a member of the judging panel, and will be announced on the Newcastle Hospitals’ website and staff intranet.

Two members of staff, one volunteer and one team from the entries received will be named the ‘Personal Touch Employee of the Quarter’, 'Personal Touch Volunteer of the Quarter'  and 'Personal Touch Team of the Quarter'. They will also be entered into an annual 'Employee of the Year', 'Volunteer of the Year' and 'Team of the Year' award, with all three winners being announced at a special award celebration in February each year.

The awards

Each winner will receive a congratulatory letter from a member of the Executive Team, copied to their line manager, Directorate or Services Manager and Clinical Director if they work in a clinical area.

They will also receive a framed Award Certificate signed by the Chief Executive and Chairman and a voucher. Individual and volunteers winners will receive a £50.00 Landmark Voucher and Teams will receive £150.00 to use within their service.

Each winner can invite a colleague, friend or family member to the award presentation which will take place at the employee’s place of work with an Executive Director presenting the award. They will also receive a framed, signed award certificate, scheme lapel pin/velcro badge to wear with pride, and award voucher.
