First the BAD NEWS:

It has been estimated that, on average, a person will require the services of their local hospitals FOUR times during their lifetime.

And now the GOOD NEWS:

The services provided by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (through the Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle General Hospital and Walkergate Hospital) are recognised as being amongst the best in the country.

The excellence of treatment and the quality of care provided by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recognised widely and has resulted in a succession of TOP HOSPITAL awards. This high level of service is enhanced by the many contributions made by the general public, which allows the Trust to provide that little bit extra in terms of more sophisticated equipment, additional patient comforts, specialist staff training and funding of local research projects.

The support provided from charitable funding has enabled us to keep pace with continual developments in medical equipment and treatment regimes and at the same time provide a comfortable and stress reducing environment, which helps the recovery process for our patients.
