Why do I need to be involved?

If there are decisions to be made about your care and treatment it is important that you are part of that process so that decisions are made that are right for you.

The healthcare professional is the expert in diagnosing the problem and identifying what the different treatment options maybe. However, you are also an expert, in knowing what it is like to live with your condition and what is important to you in your life. Being involved in the decision making process means the healthcare professional will be aware of what is important to you and help you consider the different options available to you so you can come to a decision together that is right for you.
