In order for the nursery to encourage children to thrive and develop, we plan and provide activities and play that promote social interaction and encourage all round development. We maintain a record of each child’s progress and share this with parents/carers and also ensure it is integrated with activity and development at home.

Our high standards give children the best possible start and their parents or carers the reassurance that they are safe, happy and well cared for.

Food, drink and rest

Food and Drink

Breakfast, lunch and tea are provided daily and are prepared by our own hospital chefs. Meals are nutritionally balanced and a varied menu is planned over a two-week rota. Fresh fruit and drinking water is available throughout the day.

Special diets can be arranged in cases of allergies, vegetarian and religious requirements.

Sleeping arrangements are available for children who need a nap during the day and they are monitored during sleep to ensure they are safe. Each child will have their own bed and bedding and will sleep in a quiet room with subdued lighting.

For very young babies, cots are provided in a separate sleep room and we ensure they sleep when they need to.

The nursery takes children on regular outings as much as possible, weather permitting. This includes visits to the park, shops and library. Older children go to the theatre and other places of interest to support their learning. Outings only take place when safe to do so and with the consent of parents/carers, and under strict supervision in accordance with OFSTED staff to children ratios.

Keeping your children safe

Safeguarding of Children

There are a number of policies and procedures in place to ensure each child in our care is as safe as possible. These include:

  • Illness – The Trust has a strict Infection Control Policy in place which applies in nursery to keep infection to a minimum and there are procedures in place should any child become unwell
  • Accidents – All accidents are recorded and the parent/ carer notified on their return to nursery
  • Security – A strict policy governing access to nursery premises is in place to ensure the safeguarding and protection of children in our care.
  • Equal Opportunities – The nursery operates a strict Equal Opportunities Policy and actively promotes equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Fire Drills – Ensuring children can be evacuated quickly and safely.
  • Safeguarding and Protection of Children - Under the Children’s Act 1989, the nursery has a duty to safeguard and protect children.
