Newcastle Hospitals Community Health

Tissue viability

The Community Tissue Viability Service provides education and clinical support to community health teams who are involved in wound care.

Specialist services

We offer specialist assessment of a variety of wounds including:

  • surgical wounds
  • leg ulcers
  • pressure ulcers

We also provide advice and education to help prevent pressure ulcers from developing.

Who provides the service?

The Tissue Viability Service is provided by two specialist nurses who have extensive knowledge and expertise in wound-management, and who can prescribe treatments for patients.

How can I access the service?

If you have a non-healing or slow healing wound, speak to your healthcare professional (community nurse, GP, practice nurse, podiatrist etc) who can contact us for advice and support. You must be registered with a GP in Newcastle.

We will then arrange to see you, assess you, review your current treatment, and discuss any concerns you may have.

We will see you in your usual place of treatment – either at home, in the GP surgery or hospice.
