The Health Improvement Service for Ethnic Minorities (HISEM) provides health information and advice to people from ethnic communities in Newcastle.
The service employs health development workers who are trained in healthy lifestyle issues and who have language skills. We work with local community groups, other agencies and health services to ensure you have information about how to live a healthy life and the services available to you to help you stay well. The service also provides support and advice to refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and international students.

The service also works in partnership with many local organisations to develop drop-in sessions, health checks, outreach events and interesting educational health sessions. These are held in community venues and religious centres across the region.
