The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary close to the heart of Newcastle city centre. This is the second nurse-led unit that supports the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department, seeing approximately 7,000 patients a year for the assessment and treatment of a wide range of urgent (non-emergency) conditions.
Staffed by highly experienced nurse practitioners who also work within the A&E Department at the Newcastle General Hospital, waiting times are short (typically under 20 minutes) and you are encouraged to come here for treatment to avoid delays in A&E.
The unit has purpose built facilities and ready access to a comprehensive range of support services like x-ray and pharmacy. Medical staff within the A&E Department oversee the work of the unit and are available for advice if required.
