Contact: (0191) 282 0531 - Minor Injuries Unit reception
The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary close to the heart of Newcastle city centre.
This nurse-led unit is co-located to the main Emergency Department (ED), seeing patients for assessment and treatment of a wide range of urgent (non-emergency) conditions, minor injuries and illnesses.
Staffed by highly-experienced nurse practitioners, supported by the medical staff of the ED who oversee the unit's work, and are available for advice when needed.
Waiting times are normally shorter than the main ED, and you are encouraged to come here for treatment to avoid delays in the main unit.
The unit has purpose-built facilities and ready access to a comprehensive range of support services within the hospital and community, including x-ray, pharmacy, outpatient clinics, social work teams and GP surgeries. This means you will receive the best possible treatment and advice efficiently and effectively from the most appropriate health care professional.
