Breast cancer risk rises as women get older. So even though women over the age of 70 are not automatically invited for breast screening, you are still encouraged to go for screening every three years. There are 3 Mobile Screening Units, often referred to as 'Trailers', which cover all areas of the region for a certain length of time. Women aged between 50 to 70 years are invited to attend their screening appointment as and when they receive their personal invitation.
Women living in Newcastle upon Tyne, usually attend the 'Breast Assessment Centre' for their screening appointments, which is based in the New Victoria Wing of the RVI and is referred to in the timetables as 'Static Site'. As well as the RVI Static site, timetables are provided for each Trailer and includes details of: dates, area, location of trailer/map, pictures of the insides of a trailer, and the GP Practice for that particular area. Please check the locations in the table, as highlighted below, to see if there is a trailer in your area.
