Hairloss support services
Hairloss support services are provided by Hair to Wear and Headstrong in association with Breast Cancer Care. The Macmillan Cancer Information Centre also provides information about Hairloss and the services available.
Hair to wear
Hair to Wear is provided by Sarah Amies, herself an alopecia sufferer who provides on site consultations for patients who have lost or who are about to loose their hair. Sarah will help patients select their wig and give advice as to how to care for, maintain and wear their wig to best effect.
Patients will then have the option to have their wig cut and styled at Boilerhouse in Acorn Rd, Jesmond by Kim Le Neveu a local Trevor Sorbie trained hairdresser of some repute. The services of Sarah and Kim are free of charge to the patient and there is no cost to the Trust.
Sarah is at NCCC on Fridays between 9.30am and 5.00pm.
HeadStrong

HeadStrong is a free service that helps people cope with hair loss from cancer treatment. It can be a shocking and distressing experience to lose your hair, so our trained volunteers are on hand to offer information and advice. They will show you how to use scarves, hats, hair pieces and other headwear as an alternative to wearing a wig– it’s a really practical session with lots of trying on so you can find something that suits you. Our volunteers also offer tips on caring for your hair and scalp before, during and after treatment.
We recommend you book an appointment before you start to lose your hair so you are prepared and know what is available in advance. You can attend as many times as you like and are welcome to bring someone with you for support. Each appointment lasts an hour and takes place in a relaxing and private environment.
