Ward 25 is a Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward which specialises in providing care for adults before and after having heart and chest surgery and need a high level of nursing and medical care.

We also sometimes look after patients who have had heart, lung or heart and lung transplant surgery when they are well enough after being cared for in our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (Ward 26).


How to find us

Ward 25 is based in the Cardiothoracic Centre which is set to the right of the Freeman Hospital as you look at the front. To find us:

  • Come into the Cardiothoracic Centre and take a right turn round by the reception desk.
  • At the junction turn left and follow the corridor, past the Lung Function Department, until you see the lifts or stairs on your left.
  • Take the lift or stairs up to level 3 and turn left out of the lifts or right at the top of the stairs.
  • Follow the corridor past theatre reception and turn right at the end of the corridor until you reach Ward 25 on the left.

Ward 25 is led by Sister Hazel Douglas and the clinical team includes doctors, nurses and other support staff.

Things you need to know

  • Close friends and family members may visit seriously ill patients at any time following discussion with the ward sister or nurse in charge.
  • Please do not bring fresh flowers onto the ward. This is to help with infection control.
