Cardiothoracic Services (Heart and Lung)

Ward 49 RVI

The staff on Ward 49 provide care for adults who have been admitted with a variety of cardiac conditions and disease, such as suspected and known heart attacks, heart failure and any other causes of chest pain. 

Many of our patients will have been seen in the Accident and Emergency Department, our Emergency Admissions Unit or have been referred by their GP.

Please note - temporary move

For 20 weeks from 29 June 2015, the services carried out on Ward 49 will be transferred to Ward 17 at the Freeman Hospital.

How to find us

Ward 49 is located on Level 6 of the Leazes Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. To find us:

  • Come through the Leazes Wing Outpatients entrance and walk past the reception desk on your right until you reach some lifts.
  • Take the lifts up to Level 6 and Ward 49 is well signed from here.

Staff you are likely to meet

The clinical team consists of five consultant cardiologist, nursing staff, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dietician and social worker.

Things you need to know

  • Visiting times are daily from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, and 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
