"Thank you for all you for all you have done over the last months. You have made an extremely unpleasant time in our lives bearable. Thank you for your care, consideration and respect for Edna, valuing her not only for what she is now but the person she has been in her long and rich life". Edna's family
Newcastle’s population is ageing and steadily growing with advancements in treatments in medical care, and it is estimated that in 20 years time, one in five people in Newcastle will be over 65.
We provide a wide range of specialist services for older people within Newcastle, to help them maintain their independence and have more choice and control over their well being, helping them to stay active longer and enjoy the best quality of life possible. We tackle their often complex medical and functional needs through a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach, working in close collaboration with our colleagues in the community.
In addition to comprehensive rehabilitation services, we have pioneered a range of specialist clinics for older people, including:
We have a daycare facility based at the Melville Day Unit where patients with complex medical and physical conditions can be seen and appropriate treatment and support identified, preventing the need for unnecessary hospital admission.
Inpatient rehabilitation is provided at Walkergate Hospital for patients who have ongoing rehabilitation needs to maximise their independence and function following an acute illness. Our staff here are committed to looking after each and every patient with dignity and respect, helping them to build confidence, improve well being and continue to be as mentally and physically active as possible.
