Pixi Bone Density Scan
(0191) 282 5237
This is a simple x-ray test that uses very low doses of radiation to measure the strength of your bones. The test result will be looking for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis means that the bones become thin and fragile and can break easily. If you are found to have this, then you will be referred for appropriate treatment. We will need to complete a fracture risk assessment form. The information given will be helpful in determining the outcome of your scan.
- Before having the scan, you will be asked to remove your shoes.
- We will record your weight and height.
- Support tights and stockings or socks need not be removed (unless they are very thick).
You will then be seated next to the scanning unit and asked to place your left or right heel gently against the imaging area. It is important that during the x-ray you do not move your foot, as this may give an incorrect reading. Once positioned, the x-ray takes only a few seconds. The x-ray result will be given to the requesting doctor and if there is any need for advice or further follow up regarding your x-ray, you will be seen and advised
Please let us know if you have had any x-rays recently or if you think you might be pregnant.
If you have any questions, please ask the doctor or nurse, who will answer them.
