The Belsay Unit is one of Newcastle Hospital’s specialist services for older people within Newcastle. The unit serves to help older people with complex problems and needs through providing rapid access to multi-disciplinary assessment and on-going rehabilitation.
The unit aims to improve the quality of life for older people in a day hospital setting and currently runs both morning and afternoon sessions for patients.
The team consists of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, podiatrists, physiotherapists, and support workers, but the unit also has access to dietitians, speech and language therapists, old age psychiatry and clinical psychology.

How can I access the service?
Patients can access the service from Monday to Thursday between 08:30 and 17:00, and on Fridays from 08:30 to 16:30 (the unit is closed at the weekends and on bank holidays).
Referrals to the Belsay Unit are through the Single Point of Access (Tel: 0191 256 3869) by self-referral/family referral, own GP/District Nurse, Social Worker or hospital consultant or any other health professional referral.
The Belsay Unit is located on the former Newcastle General Hospital (NGH) site and is situated to the left hand side of the former NGH as you look to the building from Westgate Road.
