Older People's Medicine

Belsay Unit

The Belsay Unit is one of Newcastle Hospitals' specialist services for older people in Newcastle. The unit helps older people with complex needs through rapid access to assessments and on-going rehabilitation.

The unit helps improve the quality of life for older people in a 'day hospital', and runs sessions for patients throughout the day.

The team consists of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, podiatrists, physiotherapists, and support workers. The unit also has access to dietitians, speech and language therapists, old-age psychiatry, and clinical psychology.

The Belsay Unit operates:

  • A Day Hospital - This includes a Parkinsons Disease team (these services serve the west and north of the city).
  • City-wide services – This includes outpatient clinics, specialist clinics, an Age Concern Day Unit, and a fracture liaison service.

How can I access the service?

Patients can access the service from Monday to Thursday between 8.30am and 5.00pm, and on Fridays from 8.30am to 4.30pm (the unit is closed at weekends and on bank holidays).
