Wallington is a rehabilitation ward. The ward is staffed by a team of professionals catering for the needs of older people recovering from an illness or coping with a disability. The staff at Wallington ward will work with you to increase your independence in order to help you get the most out of life.

The team consists of nurses, support workers, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation assistants, podiatrists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and social workers.

When you arrive at the ward you will be allocated a named nurse who will co-ordinate your overall care.

The treatment and care you receive may include:

  • Help with mobility (moving around)
  • Help and techniques for practicing everyday tasks
  • Using activities to overcome the effects of illness or disability
  • Help with issues involving communication (speaking), diet, nutrition and swallowing difficulties
  • Access to social work advice and support

The team will involve your friends and relatives whenever possible.

Whilst on Wallington ward you will need your own day clothes and comfortable footwear. We will assist you and your family with discussing and planning a safe discharge.
