Patient quote

"I would like to thank all the staff on Ward 1 for looking after my wife during her stay on the ward.  She was well taken care of and treated with love and kindness.  I myself will never forget visiting her on the ward and the staff making me feel at home."  Mr RW

Care of the Elderly

Ward 1 WGH

Contact: (0191) 213 8501 - Sister or Nurse in Charge

Ward 1 provides care for older people, mostly from the east of the city, who have been patients at Freeman or the RVI and may need rehabilitation and assessment before being discharged from our care.

Some patients may be referred by their GP or from the Accident and Emergency Department at the Newcastle General Hospital.

We have a doctor based full time at Walkergate Hospital and consultants visit weekly to carry out ward rounds and hold team meetings with our nursing staff and other support workers.
