Care of the Elderly
Ward 18 Freeman Hospital

Ward 18 provides care for older people, mostly from the east of the city, in need of rehabilitation and assessment before being discharged from our care.
Some patients may be referred by their GP or from the Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Consultants carry out ward rounds and hold team meetings with our nursing staff and other support workers.
How to find us

Ward 18 is on Level 7 of the Freeman Hospital. To find us:
- Walk through the Main Entrance of the hospital, which has revolving door, and you will see a reception desk ahead of you.
- Follow the corridor straight ahead of you, walking past the shop and hairdressers on your left and large windows on your right.
- At the end go through a double set of doors and turn left. Walk forward and you will a set of lifts on your left hand side.
- Take the lifts up to Level 7 and follow the signs for Ward 18 on your right hand side.
- Alternatively, you could take the stairs up to Level 7 (situated opposite the lifts) and when you reach the top of the stairs, come out into the main foyer and turn left where you will see signs for Ward 18.
Staff you are likely to meet
Physiotherapists and occupational therapists will help to prepare patients for home with a range of activities, both communal and individual assessments. At the frequent team meetings, social workers join the care team to help plan for discharge.
