Childrens Services

Paediatric Continence and Stoma

Our Children’s Urology and Stoma Care service provides care, support and education for children with bladder and bowel dysfunction.

                              Children's Hospital wall

The team includes Specialist Nurses, Paediatric Doctors and Surgeons who are very experienced in this area.

Together, we cover the entire northern region - from the Scottish border to Teesside and across to Cumbria. We also treat patients from outside the region, mainly Scotland and North Yorkshire.

Discussions

To help you to make informed decisions about your child’s treatment, we offer pre-operative information either at home or in hospital - particularly if your child is having complex surgery.

The Specialist Nurses can support children and their families in hospital and at home in carrying out treatment for bladder and bowel management.

Training and support

The Specialist Nurses also support and educate other healthcare professionals involved in the care of these children. This can include training staff at schools and nurseries attended by our patients.

We are based in the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
