Childrens Services

Paediatric Continence and Stoma

Our Paediatric Continence and Stoma Care unit is part of the paediatric surgical department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

We provide the highest quality of nursing care, support and education to children with bladder and bowel problems. We appreciate it can be difficult to get your child to hospital, so we offer  home visits to discuss bladder and bowel surgery before the operation. Our nurses are specially trained in caring for and treating children so that more intrusive procedures, like enemas, are carried out as sensitively as possible.

Committed to highest quality care with a personal touch

Our experienced paediatric surgical team includes specialists in bowel surgery and urology supported by specialist nursing staff. Together, we cover the entire northern region, from the Scottish border to Teesside and across to Cumbria. We also treat patients from outside the region, mainly Scotland and North Yorkshire.

As well as personal, patient-focused healthcare of the highest quality, we provide support and training in schools and to other health professionals around stoma and catheter care, and bowel and bladder management.
