Mum puts on a heavy lead apron so that she can stay while the x-ray pictures are taken. You can both see your bowel on the x-ray television.
The x-ray doctor will put a small, soft tube into your stoma (where your poo comes from) or bottom, so that a special warm liquid dye can be run in through the tube. This is not painful.
Please bring a bottle feed or drink for your baby as we have found this can be very helpful. Babies and young children usually do not like having to be kept still for long!
The contrast medium (warm liquid dye) will highlight the areas of bowel to be examined on the x-ray television. A series of x-ray pictures are taken during the test to record this information. After the test the contrast medium will be passed out through your child’s stoma/rectum without any discomfort, but it may feel a little sticky.
