Patient quote

"I just wanted to say a very big thank you for looking after our daughter while she has been poorly these last 2 years - not only caring for her but us as well. It has sometimes been hard but with your support, it has been bearable. Even when we move you won't be forgotten."

Childrens Services

Ward 16 RVI

Contact: (0191) 282 5016 - Sister Sandra Barlow

Ward 16 is a paediatric oncology ward which cares for children up to the age of 13 years.

The staff in this specialist area provide intensive care and treatment for children with all forms of cancer. We work extremely closely with families and carers with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team, and encourage their involvement in their child’s care at all times.

The Glaxo Welcome Teenager Cancer Trust Unit is also located on Ward 16 - a purpose built facility for teenagers providing a “state of the art” environment, designed with today’s teenagers in mind.
