Ward 9 New Victoria Wing (GNCH)

Ward 9 in the Great North Children's Hospital is a 25-bed ward providing specialist surgical in-patient care for children in the northern region.

We aim to provide the highest standard of care to our patients and their families.

We welcome feedback from anyone who has spent time on Ward 9 either as a patient or relative as we constantly strive to improve the care we provide.


How to find us

Ward 9 is on Level 4 of the Great North Children's Hospital, New Victoria Wing, RVI

  • Enter the main entrance and keep to the right hand side just past the Pharmacy shop there you will see the lift and stairs. 
  • Enter the lift and select level 04 upon exiting the lift please follow the corridor straight across the atrium through Ward 9 arriving at your destination.

  • Enter the hospital from the multi-storey car park and take your immediate left. Then just before the stairs take a right follow the corridor and look for the stairs for access to the lift on the right hand side.
  • Enter the lift and select level 04 upon exiting the lift please follow the corridor straight across the atrium through Ward 9 arriving at your destination.

  • Enter Leazes Wing main entrance, walk past the reception desk and turn right when you reach the café.
  • Walk down this corridor until you reach a large glazed atrium. Half way along the atrium take a left into the lift and stairs enter the lift and select level 04.
  • Enter the lift and select level 04 upon exiting the lift please follow the corridor straight across the atrium through Ward 9 arriving at your destination.

Things you need to know

  • There is an open visiting policy on the ward in agreement with the nurse-in-charge.
  • Overnight facilities are available.
  • Please note that only one parent or relative can stay overnight because of lack of space and safety reasons. However the ward sister will always discuss any special circumstances with you.
  • Hot drinks are only allowed in the parents' room and not in patient cubicles or patient areas, unless you use a cup or flask with a lid.
  • We have a large play area and each patient cubicle has its own built-in TV with DVD player.

The clinical team on Ward 9 includes:

  • Doctors 
  • Nurses
  • Nursery Nurses
  • Health Care Assistants
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists.

We also have a Hospital Play Specialist who will provide play and stimulation for children of all ages on the ward.
