Information for General Dental Practitioners


The hospital accepts referrals from general dental practitioners (GDP's), the community dental service (CDS), general medical practitioners (GMP's) and tertiary referrals from medical and dental specialists. Find out more here.

For the referring dental practitioner:


Referrals can be made to Newcastle Dental Hospital who will accept patients that are IOTN 4 and above that require complex or interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment.  The waiting time for assessment is 4-8 weeks and approximately 3-4 months to start treatment.

Newcastle Dental Hospital is also actively looking for 200 patients for treatment within the MOrth/MSc orthodontic specialist  training programme.   The waiting time for assessment is  4-8 weeks and approximately 3-6 months to start treatment for patients accepted into this programme.  Patients should have an IOTN of 3.6 or above with good oral health.

Please note - a referral from a dental practitioner is required to access any of the above services.
