    I qualified from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1988. After training and working as a GP in Liverpool I began specialist training in Dermatology in Newcastle in 1998. I was a consultant Dermatologist in Sunderland from 2005 until my move to the RVI in 2012.

    I trained in medicine at Edinburgh University. Trained in Dermatology in the Northern Deanery and completed a post-CCST fellowship in paediatric dermatology in the RVI. Commenced consultant dermatologist post with an interest in paediatric dermatology in 2006.

    I currently run 2.5 dedicated paediatric dermatology clinics per week, and 1.5 general dermatology clinics per week (one based in the community). Provision of shared consultant-led paediatric dermatology on-call service.

    I co-run quarterly dermatology genetics clinic with Dr Taylor and Dr Splitt and two yearly Epidermolysis Bullosa clinic with Dr Taylor and the Birmingham children's hospital EB team.

  • Biography

    Simon Meggitt is a medical dermatologist who received higher training in Newcastle. He runs several multidisciplinary and tertiary referral clinics for the management of complex inflammatory skin diseases. He was awarded an MD with distinction (Azathioprine for atopic eczema, 2006) and British Skin Foundation best researcher prize 2008

    a) Research: dermatopharmacology; systemic therapies for severe atopic eczema; connective tissue disease, in particular antimalarials for skin lupus

  • Biography

    I qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine (Cardiff) in 2003. I completed my house jobs and general medical training in South Wales, during which time I developed an interest in dermatology. After a brief period as a locum registrar at the RVI here in Newcastle, I moved Leeds to complete my four years as a dermatology registrar. I was fortunate to then return to the RVI as a fellow in Mohs micrographic/dermatologic surgery and have continued here as a consultant since October 2011.

  • Biography

    My research group’s theme is to use inherited skin tumour conditions to help understand skin tumour biology. This is necessary to inform the development of new non-surgical treatments for certain types of skin tumours.  I am funded by a Wellcome Trust fellowship to carry out this research.

    I graduated from Newcastle University in 2000 and completed my specialist training in Dermatology in the North-east in 2011.  My PhD in skin cancer genetics was funded by the Medical Research Council, and was completed in 2011. I am a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, the British Society of Investigative Dermatology and the European Society of Dermatological Research.

  • Biography

    Professor Nick J Reynolds received his dermatology training in Bristol, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA and Newcastle upon Tyne. He was appointed Senior Lecturer, Newcastle University and Consultant Dermatologist, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1995 until he was appointed to the Chair of Dermatology in 2001.  He leads a dynamic research department in Newcastle comprising basic scientists and clinicians. 

    His current clinical and research interests are focussed on inflammatory skin disease (psoriasis and atopic eczema).

    He is currently Chair of the Research subcommittee, British Association of Dermatologists Biologics Registry (BADBIR), Chair of UK TREND (Translational Research Network in Dermatology) and President of the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR).

    I have worked in Newcastle since 2002, but originally trained in London, and worked in the South West of England. My particular interests are in phototherapy, psoriasis and cutaneous T cell lymphoma, and I am involved in research within these areas. I have recently introduced both the 308nm Excimer lamp and UVA1 to our department, allowing us to treat a wider range of skin conditions. I am part of the supraregional CTCL team and am actively developing the service that we offer to patients.
