Your skin problem has been treated with Liquid Nitrogen. This is a very cold substance which when applied to the skin usually produces a blister, similar to a burn. You may experience some pain that should be easily controlled with simple pain relieving drugs, e.g. soluble aspirin for those over 12 years of age, or paracetamol. The treated area may also swell. There is no need to cover the treated areas if the blisters remain intact. If they become large and tense, they may be pricked using a sterile needle and a simple dry dressing applied.
Do not apply cream or ointment of any description.
Treatment may need to be repeated after the inflammation has settled. If you require further advice, please telephone the Dermatology Department, telephone number (0191) 282 4549, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday to Friday.
