Skin Laser Service

Contact: (0191) 282 4805 - Dermatology Surgical Unit

The Dermatology and Plastic Surgery services run a joint laser clinic to treat facial vascular conditions such as “port wine” stains and facial telangiectasia (burst facial veins).

The treatment is only mildly uncomfortable and is carried out in the outpatient department, usually without the need for an anaesthetic as the vascular laser has a special cooling component.

In addition, we have a carbon dioxide laser for treating skin surface defects and lesions. A local anaesthetic is given for treatment with the carbon dioxide laser as it is a little more uncomfortable.
