Research is very much a part of the ethos of the Falls and Syncope Service; working closely with the Faculty of Medicine at Newcastle University, our medical staff are actively engaged with research.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences supports excellence in research by recruiting and supporting individuals in research institutes.
Our strategy is to support strong basic science that translates to clinical research for the benefit of patients, by encouraging collaborative working between scientists and clinicians across disciplines and specialties. A key example of this is our Biomedical Research Centre for Ageing and Age Related Diseases.
Basic science is co-located with clinical facilities in the:
- Medical School
- the International Centre for Life
- and the Campus for Ageing and Vitality
Clinical specialty based research groups maintain access to stable, well characterised patient cohorts. The Newcastle Biomedicine Clinical Research Platforms support clinical research with a clinical trials unit and a joint research office with the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
