Send us your comments"We would like to thank everyone in the team for their support and kindness during our recent fertility treatment. Despite a negative result we are determined to try again as we are sure we will receive the same fantastic care. No question was too small, no worry was unimportant, no phonecall was unanswered. This has meant so much to us during the roller coaster of emotions of the past few months. Every member of your team is a credit to the NHS and your department".

Founding the Department of Reproductive Medicine in 1991, Professor Murdoch has directed it’s growth and development into the leading Fertility Centre in the North East of England and beyond. Professor Murdoch is closely involved on a daily basis with patient care, being an active member of the fertility team and is leading the department into increasingly important areas of research both regionally and nationally. In addition she is a former Chairman of the British Fertility Society.
Appointed as the second consultant in the department in 2002, Dr Stewart has been part of the team since 1994. As well as general fertility clinics and close involvement of all aspects of fertility treatment, Dr Stewart takes responsibility for the fertility preservation service and has a developing research interest in this field.
Mr McEleny heads up the Department's male factor clinic, performing complex reconstruction and sperm retrieval procedures and testicular biopsies both at the clinic itself and at the RVI.
Dr Moorby is a very experienced fertility doctor having played a key role in the department since 1999. She is involved in all aspects of patient care. Her particular interests lie in psychosexual counselling as it relates to infertility and in the egg donation programme.
Sister Moody joined the team in 2002 from London. She heads a dedicated team of nurses. Each of the nurses has their own area of interest and expertise but all are fully involved in the processes of teaching, information counselling and clinical care associated with the assessment and management of couples who have fertility problems. They all have extended roles in the areas of fertility treatment, including embryo transfer and ultrasound scanning.
As the original embryologist for the department, Dr Herbert has developed and leads a highly skilled team of embryologists and technicians, responsible for all the laboratory processes involved in the fertility treatments undertaken. She is also the laboratory research director, undertaking and supervising work which is of value both clinically and scientifically.
The clerical team includes the two reception staff responsible for answering the phone and welcoming you to the Centre. The other members of the team are responsible for the day-to-day administration of the department, supporting the clinical staff, dealing with correspondence in and out of the unit, appointments, filing and fulfilling our legal obligations on data collection to the HFEA.
