Our dedicated Chest Clinic is a centre of excellence for respiratory (lung/chest) care and a Regional Centre for Adult Cystic Fibrosis patients and for Occupational Lung Disease.
Our specialist clinicians combine medical expertise with an innovative approach to treatments, and are dedicated to providing a safe, high quality service to all who come here.
Treatment at the Chest Clinic is available to anyone who lives in and around the North East of England. There are specialist services for Cystic Fibrosis, Tuberculosis, Occupational Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, COPD and asthma.
Patients attending the Clinic are usually referred by their GP but we also receive many specialist referrals from other hospitals.
Comprehensive range of specialist services for many lung conditions
The Chest Clinic offers a wide range of services including investigation and treatment of many lung conditions including:
- Asthma
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – often called ‘smokers lung’
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Lung Cancer
- Lung Fibrosis
- Occupational Lung Disease e.g. asbestosis, occupational asthma.
- Tuberculosis
We also provide help and support for patients who would like to stop smoking. If you are interested please contact a member of our nursing staff.
Committed to providing full support and advice where and when you need it
Other services offered include Pulmonary Rehabilitation, assessment for oxygen therapy, home ventilation, a nebuliser service and home visits if needed. You may be seen by different members of our multi-disciplinary team including lung function technicians, physiotherapists and dieticians who can make sure that all of your personal needs are met.
Our nursing staff have trained to provided cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for patients with respiratory problems. This is particularly helpful for patients who are depressed, anxious and experience panic attacks.
