Ward 52 is a medical ward which specialises in caring for adults with respiratory (lung and breathing) problems including asthma, chronic obstructive airways disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis.
We receive patients who have been admitted via the Assessment Suite, the Chest Clinic and also provide "step down" care for patients from the Intensive Care Unit & the High Dependency Unit.
The staff on Ward 52 also provide specialist palliative care for people with lung cancer and some forms of work related lung disease.

Ward 52 is located on the fourth floor of Leazes Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. To find us:
- Come through Leazes Wing Main Entrance and walk past the reception desk.
- Turn to your right and walk along this corridor until you see the East Block Lifts. Take the lift or the stairs up to the fourth floor.
- When you come out of the lifts turn you will enter a small seating area. Follow the signs round to your left and you will see Ward 52 is clearly signposted.
Staff you are likely to meet
The team consists of doctors, specialist nurses, nursing staff, physiotherapists, pharmacy staff, dieticians, speech therapists, social workers and other support staff.
Things you need to know
- We have basic overnight staying facilities for relatives to use and encourage carer involvement in patient care.
- Please do not bring fresh flowers onto the ward. This is to help with infection control.
