Pregnancy is a time of many changes with much new information to take in. In order to prepare for labour, birth and the early days of being a parent we offer a range of services to suit the needs of the local community.
At the hospital we offer a session on labour, birth, pain relief and also what to do when things don't go according to plan. This session is available for all women planning to have their baby in Newcastle and is taught by community and hospital based staff.
We also have sessions on breastfeeding either with partners or ladies only which are held both in hospital and community venues. We recommend that if you live outside Newcastle it is preferable to book this session in your local area in order to find out about your local support networks. If this is not possible please contact us to book a place.
We also offer a session on preparing to become parents which offers information on life with a new baby. Some of these classes take place in the unit and others in community settings.
To coincide with the opening of the Newcastle Birthing Centre we have extended the services on offer to include sessions run by private teachers. This is an exciting time for the unit and the new classes on offer range from classes aimed at deep relaxation and breathing through to fitness classes for pregnant mothers. The classes do have a charge and are booked via the individual teachers. As we have a commitment to equal access all of the teachers offer us free places so if there are classes you wish to attend but are unable to fund please ask your community midwife to contact us. More information about these new services will follow as the classes become available.
As we get a high number of requests for our services, please book early.
Please use the contact telephone number (0191) 282 4555 to book courses. We aim to answer the phone during office hours. There is an answering service available for you to leave a message and you will be contacted as soon as possible. Please be aware that there are a high volume of calls to this number and therefore we aim to respond within 10 working days. Thank You.
