Advanced healthcare with a personal touch
We’re committed to providing you with the best possible musculoskeletal care. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with a long term condition and need help controlling and managing it, or whether you’ve suffered an injury requiring surgery, we aim to deliver advanced healthcare with a personal touch.
Our expertise covers a wide range of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, including the spine, hips, knees and other bones and joints.
The team is divided into four specialist areas of clinical expertise:
Rheumatology: medical management of conditions affecting your bones, joints and surrounding tissues, including connective tissue diseases
Elective Orthopaedics: surgical and non-surgical management of conditions affecting the bones and joints
Trauma Orthopaedics: care for injuries affecting the bones and joints
Metabolic Bone Service: care for conditions affecting the strength and condition of bones, such as osteoporosis
Our overarching aim is to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible. Our consultants and surgeons are supported by an experienced team of healthcare professionals, including specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and specialists in body movement.
We also have a specialist Orthopaedic Discharge Team which delivers individual rehabilitation services in your own home, while for older patients, our “step-down” rehabilitation unit is focused on helping you regain your mobility and independence quickly and smoothly.
We work with colleagues at Newcastle University on a range of musculoskeletal research projects. This includes research into disorders including osteoarthritis and autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.
The main aim of research is to find results and discoveries that can lead to treatments, therapies or ways to diagnose illnesses which improve patient care.
You can find out more about our research work on the university's Musculoskeletal Research website.
