Musculoskeletal Services

Sarcoma

The North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service provides a comprehensive service for the diagnosis and management of bone and soft tissue tumours, including sarcomas in all anatomical sites. There is an MDT meeting on a Friday morning, usually at 8am in the Pathology Museum, Level 2, Freeman Hospital.

If you have a patient with a suspected sarcoma for discussion at the MDT, a proforma to request discussion is available from the MDT coordinator by email at SarcomaMDT@nuth.nhs.uk. Cases for discussion on a Friday should be referred by 12:30pm on the preceding Wednesday. Urgent cases submitted after the deadline can be discussed if the clinicians required (eg in pathology and radiology) agree.

Abdominal and retroperitoneal cases must be referred to the abdominal/retroperitoneal team ahead of the meeting, either to Professor Manas or Mr French.

Because of the complexity of cases, it is expected that a clinician who knows the patient comes to the MDT. If this is not possible, then the patient should be discussed in advance with the MDT Chair. Referral to the Sarcoma MDT does not constitute a referral for ongoing care – this needs to be done separately to the appropriate clinician."
