"I wanted to thank you all for the excellent treatment I received when I fell and fractured my hip. You were all so kind and considerate and there was such a welcoming atmosphere that anxiety was removed and I had full confidence". Mrs JW

If you suffer a serious injury involving a fracture or broken bones, you’ll be treated by an orthopaedic surgeon in our specialist Trauma Services Unit.
The Trauma Services team treats patients upon their admission to the Accident & Emergency department, where there is a full range of radiological equipment on hand to assess your injuries quickly and effectively. There are 24-hour emergency operating theatres if necessary, plus an Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU).
After surgery, we provide specialist wards for you to recover, run by multi-disciplinary teams of expert staff. If you need a longer recovery time, there are rehabilitation wards available.
Elderly patients may be referred to one of our other specialist teams, such as the Integrated Falls Service, Osteoporosis Assessment Service and Elderly Care Services to help prevent similar problems in the future. For patients over 70 who’ve suffered a fall, we can assess your injuries and refer you for rehabilitation or further specialist treatment.
From the moment you’re admitted to the moment you are discharged, you’ll be looked after by one of the special nurses on our Trauma team. They’re committed to ensuring that you receive the best possible care throughout your visit. They also work with our partners in the community to provide continuity of care in your own home after you leave hospital, should you need it.
You can also take advantage of our innovative Fracture Risk Assessment Service in the Fracture Clinic, where a Nurse Practitioner uses state-of-the-art equipment to assess your risk of future fractures, referring you for further risk-reducing treatments if necessary.
