Karen Loughney, one of our Specialist Osteoporosis Nurses runs this unique and innovative 'one stop' service based in Fracture Clinic at the Newcastle General Hospital. This service is similar to the Metabolic Bone Unit but is provided for patients who have recently had an accident or fall leading to a fracture.
DXA investigations are carried out here to measure bone density and to screen for osteoporosis. Sister Loughney performs the scan interprets the results and then provides expert advice on specific osteoporosis treatments to reduce the risk of future fracture and to prevent further bone loss.
